"Delgo"...really?

Is anyone surprised that the movie Delgo was a flop its opening weekend? When I saw the trailer, I thought it was a commercial for some lame B-rate video game. The graphics looked choppy and the story looked unoriginal and-I hate to use this word too many times- lame.
One great computer-animated movie that was bizarre yet awesome- Arthur and the Invisibles. I kind of wanted to see it when it first came out, being of the opinion that it either rocked or bombed. I really, truly loved it. And it's got Freddy Highmore in it! And Mia Farrow in her present typical role as the kooky, worn Grandma! Arthur and the Invisibles was bizarre and fantastical, but it worked.
One movie that I am definitely going to the theatre to see-
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I don't like Brad Pitt, but I love Cate Blanchett. And I am certainly going to see it. It comes out Christmas day! I am excited.
It is based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, titled the same. I looked for it at the library, but we don't have it. I did order it from a different library, however, so it should be in soon. I want to read the story before the movie comes out.
The only thing I have read of Fitzgerald's is The Great Gatsby. A coworker and I made a pact to read it at the same time. Not like ready-set-read!, but starting it within the same week. I don't know if she ever finished it, but I did, finishing within two weeks of starting it. I really liked it, it certainly does measure up to its hype as far as I'm concerned.
Right now I am still reading Sherlock Holmes, and let me tell you, it gets better and better. I've got a couple of books to read once I finish- one about Roald Dahl called The Irregulars and one called The Secret Life of Words by Henry Hitchings. I started The Secret Life a while back, but never got around to finishing. It tells of the origins of the English language, and words that had their beginnings in other languages such as French, German, etc. It was very interesting, I imagine I will enjoy going back and completing that read.
Talking about books serves to calm me and to distract my mind from its worries. I have been mulling over possible missions opportunities for the next year or two, and I honestly can't make up my mind. I applied to CentriKid, but I will not hear back from them until February. I really would like this CentriKid thing to work out, but if it doesn't...
There is also another opportunity that I am "in love" with. It is called Hands On, and they are looking for people (students) to go to a certain fiercely Muslim country to "teach ESL". Basically the job requires that the mission team befriend the native students there and minister through relationship, prayer walking, etc. It sounds amazing to me, and I really want to do that. It would call for me to raise my own support, about 2600 dollars, plus immunization shots and spending money. The stint would last from August 16 to Dec. 16, 2009. It would be the length of a full semester. I would actually choose to do this over CentriKid, but...I am full of apprehension. I know I need to continue to pray about it and see what God's will is. I know that whatever God wants, he will make happen, but that doesn't squash my thought of "I have to prepare". I guess my main doubt about Hands On is that I am still so young, and so inexperienced. I know it would be so daunting. My heart is in conflict with my head. I know I know. Keep praying, Bonnie. It is just distracting for me.
So, from movies to books to missions! That is the way it usually goes for me now, haha. Now I think I will go and watch Pan's Labyrinth on Netflix.

  1. Well, Bonnie...you truly are your father's daughter and your mother's daughter - wow! what a revelation! You love movies (father) and you love books (mother). You have the best of both worlds! Don't fret over the future. Remember, obedience and perseverence...one step at a time!
    love you- mama
